3) CT Scans
A CT (computed tomography) scan uses low-dose x-rays to take a series of images from different angles, reconstructed into a detailed cross-sectional view. The cross-section shows a precise view of the body’s internal structure.
South West Radiology is the first private diagnostic medical imaging provider in NSW to install a detector-based Spectral CT scanner (based in Campbelltown). This allows our specialists to provide faster diagnoses and the lowest possible dose of radiation for all CT scans.
At South West Radiology in Liverpool, NSW we use Toshiba CT scanners.
X-rays, also known as radiographs, use low levels of radiation to produce an image of bones and internal organs. This is achieved through the absorption of radiation by certain tissues. Denser tissue, such as bone, absorbs more radiation than the softer tissues of organs, muscle, and fat. As a result, bone appears white, the softer tissues show shades of grey, and air remains black.
An ultrasound is a diagnostic procedure in which sound waves are used to produce an image of the inside of the body. This image is projected onto a screen, allowing trained sonographers and radiographers to assess various body parts and organs. Sound waves are generated using a hand-held transducer while contact gel is applied to streamline the procedure.
The most common ultrasound procedures focus on the pelvis and abdomen, alongside Obstetric ultrasounds which produce images of an embryo or foetus.
At South West Radiology, our specialists offer a range of bulk-billed injections and procedures. These include musculoskeletal injections, spinal injections, image-guided biopsies, and image-guided core biopsies.
These consist of a broad range of injections predominantly employed to treat pain, often used alongside diagnostic imaging techniques such as CT scans or ultrasounds. This ensures the needle is guided into the proper tendon, muscle, or joint
Guided with CT scans, spinal injections deliver pain-relieving medications directly to the area of the spine causing discomfort or soreness.
Fine Needle Biopsies
Using a thin needle, cells are removed from the area in question, which are then viewed and analysed by a pathologist. This can assist your doctor in producing a diagnosis.
